First proper complaint in two years
« on: January 10, 2009, 12:07:51 pm »
Customer phones me up " my windows were terrible after you cleaned them last time (over two weeks ago) they were covered in spots and runs so please don't come again!" She owes me for the last clean. I asked if i could come and take a look "my husband had to clean them again they were so bad!" Great i thought, so he cleaned every one of them? "well not the top windows - he can't reach them"
I'll be there in ten minutes - turned up and they were pretty near perfect i found about six spots on one pane downstairs (he was supposed to have cleaned those). All the dirt and spots on the inside. I pointed this out to her and struck a nerve.
Decided to just walk away from it in the end. Asked next door and they were perfectly happy.  ::)

What really wound me up is that she had the nerve to ask how business was going this weather! Daft cow she owes me money and makes out she's concerned that i haven't been able to work because of the ice.

Allthough on the face of it this may seem a very minor thing, it's usualy VERY disheartening, can make you question your ability & be on your mind for a good few days.
The good news is Dave, the above is only natural. It happens to us all at some point mate. You did the right thing by going round, at least you know now it wasn't your fault. The quicker you move on from this episode the better. your moral depends on how good you deal with the above situations. ;)

Very very good point.

Its the playing on your  mind that is the bugger. It happened to me on one occassion and for about 3 or 4 days after I questioned the systems capabiliites (WFP)

i to have never had a complaint using wfp in nearly 2 years, but about 6 months ago i had a call from a regular customer saying that their dormer window was all spotty, so i said i would call back that afternoon. i went inside to look at the offending window and it was covered from top to bottom in small spots and i couldnt work out why. so i re-done the window, appoligised and left.
i really bothered me that i had a complaint and didnt know why it had happened.
next month when i returned to the house the home owner explained that it wasnt me but the window had started to break its seal and it was tiny marks inbetween the glasing so they had the unit replaced.
i was so happy and it restored my confidence . still no complaints.

You have to go back with this system because your never sure. If it had been a fault with my technique or the water then every house that day would be buggered. I think the hubby just doesn't want to pay and got the wife to do the dirty work.

I have my guarantee printed on my quotation forms, and always stress that the work is guaranteed when I book a job.  I tell them that if there's ever a problem to phone within 48hrs and we'll be back to sort it out.

If they phone after 48 hrs (unless they're away on holiday etc) it's at our discretion whether we honour the guarantee or not.

Shocking, well as they have already binned you, i would have said - "If you have a problem with my service then ive always said let me know, i'll come back to put it right, but these windows are clean.. If you dont want to use the service for whatever reason dont lie, theres no need. If you dont want to keep paying out for the service, just say so, i will understand."

Dont forget that if she wants you back, she still owe's you for last time :P

The excuse was - she was in hospital having a replacement knee fitted. Don't think her husband had one. Maybe he had a labotomy at the same time because they never complained the first time they were cleaned.

You have to give some creedance to complaints about spots because the frames can cause spots no matter how good you are. If the customer complains about them being smeary I tend to smell a rat because that is a trad problem.
I have had several customers with whom I have parted company amicably because I couldn't stop the frames from causing spots. I could go back to doing them trad but I don't want to go down that route.

You simply cannot win them all, so don't even try. Be prepared to lose them, once they have gone you stop worrying about them and theres always another customer just down the road.
