We always write to let them know first; it just seems a little more polite ;D

We usually put our prices up a £ at a time.
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

I leave them a note. On it it tells them when their last increase was. This stops the moaning about it only just going up etc.

Depends what your prices range from and to. 1 £10 job increased to £11 is a 10% rise and yes people will work out % rises.
Pick a month when you are going to do the increase and just leave a lineage on your payment slip on the clean before! "Please note that from your next clean the new price will be XXXX"
For those that pay you on the day just tell them.
There will be those who won't like it and that is when you explain you have never increased your rates. It is then up to them whether they continue with you or not.
Start now with brand new customers. Get the price in your head and add your increase then tell them the price. :)

im with grahams ,
dont write a letter ,just tell em and if they queery it tell em its the 1st time in 6 yrs.
however if your charges r ok dont increase them.times r tough at the mo and they may use it as an excuse to get rid of you .

good luck
