Water mark on upholstery
« on: December 16, 2008, 04:27:35 pm »
Got a job later this week that was booked in by a big bathroom supplier in my area, during installation of a new bathroom suite they sprung a leak which went through the floor onto the customers 2 seater below and as a goodwill gesture they are getting me in to clean all their upholstery.
Spoke to the customer but all I could get out of him was that it was a cloth material, not sure what its made up of.

How easy is it gonna be to remove this water mark, if at all?
Anything special I should be trying on it?

Cheers
Paul

You'll definitely need to qualify this one. Always tricky when being commissioned by a third party as to who you have to satisfy. Do you keep happy the person who is paying you although you may have to answer to the continued dissatisfaction of the owner of the upholstery.

And water marks can sometimes be impossible. Flat weaves doubly so.

Good luck.

Rogers right on every count. As he says, if its printed cotton there is little chance.

That said, Mr ashmore has a good suggestion which of course is very unlike him.

Hi Paul, Had exactly the same thing last week with contents of bath came threw ceiling and onto newish suite, i took affected cushion away and cleaned with m-power and water rinse-didnt work, then tried prespray of acid rinse and rinsed with acid-didnt work, then tried prespray with solution H/D microspitter and water rinse and it worked :o
Think it depends largely on fibre type etc but this method worked for me. Good luck!

happy customer and happy george wimpey! as they didnt have to replace suite

If it is on natural fabric especially white or creams that has brown water marks.

Do NOT use any alkaline products!

Why bother cleaning it??
Write them an insurance report and let them claim for brand new and you charge them a nice fee.

Thanks for the replies, job is tomorrow morning so can see for myself the material, they already know there is no gaurantee of removal, may give Shaun's suggestion a try after testing.

Thanks Shaun, tried your suggestion and it worked.
Designer furniture very expensive so both customer and bathroom supplier very happy. Charged accordingly  :)

Browning Prescription has no bleach so it can be 'well used' although 2 water mark stains can be as different as chalk and cheese to remove.
