As many of you may know I have started up again in Berkshire after nearly thirty years in Wolverhampton. Well here’s the good news I have found a cracking accountant or should I say Tax agent.
He took redundancy from the tax office after thirty years service ,you could say he’s a game keeper turned poacher  what’s interesting is he knows what he can get away with regarding tax returns and for a one man band of which I am he charges £300. Can’t say fairer than that.

All I can say is there  are existing times ahead, hard work mind but isn’t  that what this job is all about.
There is one saving grace I will not make all the same mistake I made when I first started out in this industry. Falling for the old line “ Make a good job of my restaurant and I’ll have it every six months”
Yeh right I see them coming from mile off!

Another lesson I have learnt Dave is on invoicing.

When I have priced a commercial job and get it I ask customer about all their requirements (timing etc) and lay on the big service bit and then politely point out (but quite firmly) that my payment terms are 30 days max and that I am very strict about it. At this stage of the relationship they take it fine and guess what? I hardly ever get late payments now.

I have thirty days payment required on my quote form, that way if they go ahead with the job, they sign for it.

30 day’s you guy’s are very generous, with this type of service after 30 days the carpets need cleaning again!  Lets face it fella’s if they don’t pay what you going to do, give them their dirt back?
On completion are my terms and never had a problem, the only client who had credit was American Standards and that was only because we had a monthly contract with them., so 90 days was the rule there.

Does your tax adviser's fees include the Self Assesment too or just preparing the accounts for the Tax Man? I ask because my accountant treats, and charges, them as two different services.
