daisychains what a good Idea
« on: November 23, 2008, 08:40:24 am »
HI All

Up until recently my trusty WFP was fast on every round bar one.. Doing it trad was faster but I still used WFP because of being safer  ::)

The problem was it was a long road and busy so where I had to go from one side to the other I had to wait for it to be quiet just to pull the hose across the road....  :(

I did try just cleaning one side of the road then driving the van to the other side to clean ... but sometimes there was cars that were where I needed to park so my hose would reach   :(

Anyway I read somewhere about a bloke that used 2 hoses to make a daisychain  ::)   this would help with not having enough length and crossing the road   ..  ::)

You see you just cross the road as normal with the hose coming out of the van then when you get to the other side you then connect the other hose reel  ;D

What has been the result   ???

Well the round that took me an hour longer with the wfp is faster then before now   ;D I knocked off a hour  to what it used to take me and I picked up a new house with conservatory  ;D

I know this is nothing new but what a good Idea and now I believe that all rounds are faster with WFP  ;D

Adders Rinse and clean

I try to avoid hose across the road but do it on quiet back roads sometimes.  One thing you might want to try as well as daisychaining is to lay rubber matting over the hose on the road.  It's not cheap but lasts a very long time.  Hose often lays flat but it only needs to get caught in car wheels once in order to cause a problem.  I used to daisychain on some jobs when I used 50mtr of half inch hose on each reel.  I haven't needed to do it (yet) since using smaller bore hose and having 100mtr on a reel.  It's easier to pull out too.  A more powerful pump is needed on small bore hose (I use 100 PSI).  I've no idea if this would be sufficient going through 200 mtrs though.

I take it that you are speaking from experience, thanks Shiner for pointing that out to me ... This was a busy road and there was no time to lay rubber matting just to get across to the other side  ;D

Yes I have a 100 PSI pump and it is powerful to go through 200 mtrs of hose this is what I used  ;)

Funnily enough (and fortunately) the wheels that caught on the hose were my own (don't ask !! )  :)  .  I'm glad it happened that way.  The hose I have now is better for laying flat though.
Thanks for the info re 2 x 100 mtrs of small bore.  It may come in handy one day.
