« on: November 18, 2008, 05:01:48 pm »
Ive just had a customer call me to call round to give him a price.

Ive only been carpet cleaning for 8 month and never even heard of this term before.

He said he has an old fizel carpet that needs cleaned, but what on earth is one of these and how do you clean them??

with great difficulty, would'nt even go near it, can wet clean them, cant use dry compound as you get patchy marks, could perhaps vacuum it ???

Yip im thinking the same, but just found this web page www.uniquecarpetsltd.com/care/sisal explaining how to clean, seem to be a very delicate procedure and if not done properly your in trouble.

I think i will still go and have a look and maybe do a test with a slightly damp microfibre cloth.

Yeah I have just bought a sebo vacuum so that might work, but i will tell the customer there is absolutley no guarantees with this type carpet and think i will put a silly price on it to try and put him off.

"Disclaimer" Yip i do that anyway with carpets im not 100% sure about.

This guy lives in a very affluent area of my town so i dont think the price is going to be a problem, but ive found the posh ones are the worst for getting every penny out of you, he will be expecting to see sweat running down my face.

No it wouldn't!

It would be better than nothing, but you'd need a proper CRB machine to sufficiently work your dry compound into the carpet.  I'd suggest farming this one out to someone local with a dry system like host or envirodri, and going along for the experience.

Start with a clean sheet. A fizel could be anything. Presume nothing.

Listen to what the customer has to say. It may or may not make sense. Then....

Don't believe anything the customer tells you ::)

Do your own survey and your own tests.

Only then can you come to a worthwhile conclusion.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
Ken

PS If it is a sisal, or a seagrass, or a jute etc.  carpet, any water based system WILL cause shrinkage, hence the need for dry compouind extraction.
