When using detergents and possibly some other detergent free formulae, but not microsplitters, a pile brush is used primarily to distribute the solutions throughout the pile.  These solutions then need dwell time for the soil to be broken down into something that can be rinsed away.

High levels of mechanical agitation will obviously accelerate this soil breakdown as well as opening the pile, lifting out fibrous waste and speeding up the job. Remember T.A.C.T or C.H.A.T.? Reduce one element and you have to make up with another.

A CRB machine in particular offers benefits beyond the chemical side of the cleaning process.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Over the last three years i've evolved from a pile brush to a duo and now to an envirodri machine and i find the envirodri produces significantly superior results every time for a lot less effort. And anything that requires less effort gets my vote. (it is expensive though!)

The envirodri gets my vote, I thought I was cleaning to a high standard until I got mine and experienced the difference. Its paid for itself 10 times over as I market my cleaning specifications at the quote stage.

The worst thing about the sebo is it get clogged up and I seem to be ever pulling wet lint out, it's a bit of a design flaw in my opinion.

Agreed but you get what you pay for! The Sebo at about £200 and the Envirodri about £1000 (i think)

By the way i ant being smart saying that as i have a Sebo ;)

cheers

Pile brush every time for agitation.
Can't see how a machine will make any difference.
Used to use my Powerbrush but the results where the same using brush.
Brush was twice as quick too and provides more accessibility.
Rarily bother grooming afterwards unless I've got time on my hands.

I use one of these on the real bad ones.http://www.rotowash.com/ It's supposed to be a complete carpet cleaning system, but I wouldn't use it that way.

I managed to persuade a customer to part with it a few years ago. Very good vor agitation due to it's imense weight.

The duo did a good job but the difference with the Envirodri is that the pile gets lifted so much more and looks like it has already been cleaned! I can't praise it highly enough and the fact that you can change the brushes to suit the carpet makes it even better. Its easy to clean as well (much easier than the Duo which was a right pain in the ars*!).

It costs about £1100 brand new but it is definately worth it - i was sceptical because of the cost but once i used it once i forgot about the cost because it does such a good job.
