voltmeter problems
« on: November 03, 2008, 08:17:08 pm »
I have a voltmeter fitted to my leisure battery, its reading 3/4 full charge. its just a simple red yellow and green dial with a needle, when the split charger on the variflo+ controller is set to charge the needle moves to the top of the green so i know the charge is being replaced. when the engine is off the needle drops to 3/4 full BUT the battery gave up today and is currently on bench charge, its 110ah I've only had it working for 2 weeks, before i started with it i made sure it had a full charge, it runs one 100psi pump for two hose reels pretty much all day, does anyone have any idea as to why the voltmeter is showing a 3/4 full reading when it was clearly dead?

is a bench charge every 2 weeks normal even with a split charger present?

cheers,
if anyone has a link to a better voltmeter it would be appreciated, halfords dont do them anymore

A bench charge is normal practice even with a split charger as generally window cleaners do not drive enough to charge the battery when compared with the amount of drain they put on it.  I would recommend a weekly bench charge to be on the safe side.  As to your voltmeter reading, I have no idea!
