Black, shiny, ceramic floor tiles....
« on: February 26, 2005, 08:54:30 am »
Hi again guys!

Was cleaning a Clients kitchen floor, as described above, yesterday....it is a lovely floor, but really hazardous when wet (put it this way, I slipped in my blue plastic overshoes, knocked her wine rack over and broke 3 of her 9 bottles all over the floor....ooops). 20 mins later, after I exhausted my supply of cleaning clothes and vac'd a wet floor (I know dangerous) twice, it was clean of the spill and I continued to mop. However, it is a nightmare to clean as no matter what footwear (or even no footwear) you are using, there are always footprints after the floor is dry.....I have tried astonish and your usual flash liquids, but they are no good on this floor. Once again do you guys have a tips or advice on what best to use on this floor. Incidentally I am using the Vileda Ultramax mop system, as I quite like the fact you can remove the mop head, wash it and mop the next time with a clean mop (will carry on using this unless you have any alternative suggestions)

Once more th ;Daking you in advance

Hi Jan

Never used one, but seeing as you will need to keep the floor as dry as possible, how about one of those household mops advertised on the Tele that have disposable cloth type thingys on the end.
Just clean the floor (as they are impregnated with cleaning solution) and throw the cloth away. No water involved and the floor should not be so slippery!!

Just a thought!!

Hi Jan

I have exactly the same floor in a show home I clean. Basically after I have cleaned with a solution I mop over again (& again) with clear warm water until all cleaner residue is removed. I have a large wide cotton fringed flat mop head from B & Q (& carry 2 spares). With these I dry off with one & then dry buff with the other. I have to work methodically from one corner to another. It is extremely time consuming and a total pain!!

Luckily being a showhome we do not always have to get the floor damp as such and try to spot mop & buff as much as possible.

Does this person use her kitchen or does she employ a cook too :-\ ?? If so persuade her that it is totally impractical and that she needs to replace it before your next scheduled visit!!! 8)

..............Now back to the real world!!

Good Luck

Maggie :)

We use micro fibre mops. You can use these slightly damp without any chemicals and they will clean the floor without leaving any residues which are likely to cause streaks etc. You will need to rinse the floor first until all the residues from previous cleans have gone.

hi there,

yes microfibre is the answer, yes they are costly however you can wash them about 300 times, therefore one of the mop heads would last a year if washed every day.

you need to remove all of the previous cleaning chemicals to get the best results.

works fantastically well, on shiny or gloss finish floor tiles, matt finish floor tiles.  infact they make  a very good job on most surfaces .

Hi Martin

We use microfibre now for all our cleaning and find them fantastic to use for dry and damp mopping of most surfaces. What is the best price you have managed to buy them at. At the moment i can get them for 75p each for a standard size 32 x 32cm in four different colours which i think is quite a good price.

Hi guys and thanks for the info about the microfibre mops. I have looked at these at my local suppliers but the only ones I can see are flat rigid ones.  How then are these rinsed in a bucket? Or are you all saying that one slightly damp mop will do a whole (reasonably sized household) floor is one fell swoop? I don't mind forking out on any expensive items in the first instance as long as they are good enough to do a really good job on the floors and have washable heads, and of course are money savers in the long run. ;D

Hi all

Jan the microfibre covers slip on & off a frame. One should do it, but I always carry a spare just in case.

Derek are you at liberty to provide details of your supplier ::). I am spending a small fortune on these by comparison!!
Would be very grateful

Maggie :)
