Health and safety?

Seems the windowcleaning trade is very health and safety aware these days. However, what about other trades? I was watching a couple of painters today balancing on a selection of boards on the ridge of an asbestos looking corrogated roof trying to reach the apex of a gabled end. Scarey stuff, no ladder tie offs or footing for those boys! One looked about nineteen stone too.

I definately agree mate, when people say ladder work, window cleaning is the first thing that comes to mind. But its is also biulders, painters, roofers etc. I seen two guys go into a close with a set of ladders and rope, about 50/60 feet up he apeared on the roof, one guy lowering him closer to the edge holding the rope and the guy on the rope starts to clear out the glutters by hand, droping the much and dirt onto the pavement below. Not the safest of methods.

i watched two builders, one of em i know and he is 50 next year, cleaning moss off a roof two doors away from me today. they just laid a ladder on the gutters and climbed up with trowels buckets and bin bags, worked on both sides of the apex, scraping off, bagging up and carrying down. no tie off/footers/ladder mats/matrix etc
