Hi, it does matter big time as it is intellectual theft, if you have any problems contact Pure Freedom I,m sure they will give you advice on how to sort it out because they had to stop someone doing this to them.
Mart.
Do you seriously think that nicking some code and a few pics from a small businessmans site would get anywhere near to being "intellectual theft"?, I used to work within the computer security game for a major UK betting company and someone nicking some code would be laughed at by any lawyer knowing anything about electronic data law...
We used to have literally thousands of attacks on our machines per week....do you think that we could do much about it...truth is ...next to nothing can be done unless you are a goverment organisation and even then it is hard...Our company even had a budget of a million to cover fraud and computer attacks and team of security bods watching....multilevel security defences...why because the law does not in most cases have the teeth to action electonic theft and attacks.
At times I think that some come very close to being 'barrack room lawyers'....intellectual theft with regard to this item...please it is not even close to anything that could be chased let alone worth giving a lawyer wages to action.
Copyright law relies on many things not just that something was copied and pasted.
If anyone is worried about their images or text being nicked from their site...you have a duty to ensure that you take measures to prevent that theft...merely posting a site with a provider does not constitute 'access control or rights' whether given or restricted.
As I said in an earlier post...I downloaded a copy of Pauls site to me pc - complete...do you think that is 'intellectual theft'? even if I posted it back up to the net ...what do you think could be done about it?...The truth is nothing. Paul has done about all he can..yup..contact the person and appeal to their sense of honour.
Sorry to jump on this but many people seem to have an impression that electronic data can be protected by 'law'...every week we see data not being protected by law on a huge scale whilst most of us cannot remove ourselves from the elcetronic data age....merely trusting law or using it as a defence is very misguide at best and downright stupid at worst.
The truth is that data about you is bought and sold on a massive scale by anthing from charity companies wanting information about say people above 60 who buy pets products so they can target them ...i.e wills & probate to those who are running scam. Just think there are business's out there who rely solely on the information they can obtain about you from not so honest sources....
Respectfully
Dave.
