Hi

I have just about done my first month of wfp after 16 or so years trad, and whist I'm making more and working less, I do ache a lot more, I'm sure some of it is down to technique and will improve with wfp experience, but for now, the wrists, back and neck are giving me some grief (I'm 37 by the way). So to get to the point I have a friend who is a massage therapist and is very very good, but also quite expensive (£50/£60 per hour) does anyone know if I could get away with a monthly visit as a legit expense?

oh and no that price does not include any personal services. :)

Back and shoulder aches and pains is not good! However you may expect it in your neck as your using it more to look up all the time. May i ask how high your cleaning when using wfp?

Tosh

also, still waiting for a new smaller pole to arrive so I am using a 34ft pole for everything and it aint the lightest pole so I am sure once I have a lighter pole for the lower work it will be a bit easier.

YWCS, you need that lighter pole, that's got to be really hard work; I'm guessing it's a glass-fibre one too.

As for the massage cost, I reckon you could put it down as an expense.  Many blue-chip businesses provide their staff with free private health care (the reason is, is to get them back to work as-soon-as-possible), and this is a business expense.

So why should your massage be any different.

I'd class it as an expense, and argue your case, should you ever be investigated.

today I did 3 hours at 30ish ft and 2 hours at 20ish ft and an hour trad 8 yard-ing 45mins pointer & bottoms.

Do u have the base of the pole tucked into your waist and rock, or occasional use with arms?

Or do you hold your pole pretty much any ware and use mainly all arm work?

YWCS, I've been most of my work with a pole for about a year now. I've had lots of problems, but touch wood things are better now. I got a lot of pain between my shoulder blades and acquired two tennis elbows. In the end I got a cortisone injection for one of them. Much better now. However, this is what I think I was doing wrong. I held the butt of the pole around waist hight and moved it up and down from there. I tried to use my legs to rock, but found I was only doing this on high windows. Downstairs was all arms. Now I try to extend my arms to their full length downwards. So now the butt of the pole is around half way down my thighs. Seems to help me. Good luck. Also I claim massage therapist as an expense, and don't doubt about it being kosher.
