am i over charging
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:01:18 pm »
ok.

I have been wc for 8 months now , and have picked up a fair few customers . most of them are the usual 3 bed semis that i charge £1 per window and £2 for the hard to reach. I have now started working in the local villages and have been quite successful. today i cleaned a large farm house and granny annexe, its in the middle of no where so charged it out at £2 per window, there are 28 so chrged £56 . 9 are large georgi9on and the rest are sash.  also again  a large 6 bed place with 19 windows i charged £25 as 3 were velux and 3 were patio doors. Now the customers are happy so should i realy worry?

people put stuff like this up all the time , and from what you are saying they sound reasonalble prices, concidering the size of them. But for the the first one you mentioned at £56, how long did it take you?

I have been cleaning for a little longer than you 10-11 months , i also charge £1 per window/door and doesn't matter if big or small still a pound first cleans add 50% to 100%, Better to price like this then if a customer says thats too much then you can do a deal with them, but beware of doing different prices on the same house types, same area's they may know each other and want a cheaper price.
If no one has said anything and your getting the business don't worry, You might find other cleaners in the area are cheaper, however there is a chance theyv'e not increased there price for sometime.
Good Luck and stick with it, you will make a good living.

£2 per window is pretty steep.

If you got the job then fair play to you, but you open yourself up to undercutting. :-\

I priced a house with 16 windows yesterday at £20, and it took me half hour.
Next time it will be quicker, so it's a good'un.

Don't think I could have got away with £32 for under half hour though!

onsite , its about an hour. but its 5  miles from anywhere. had another one recently and charged £61 but they paid happy enough and rebooked but they said the last guy only charged £25, that one i timed myself, i left home at 1pm and got back at 3pm so justified it as a fair price. i dont want to rip people of but also i have make a fair profit and recon on £20/ £25 per hour in town and £25/ £30 out of town. that should cover holidays and depreciation on me tools

Your a little dearer than me but my charging system is allot more complex and cant really say what I would of charged, however for the time on the job and time traveling then I might have been about £30, but then I only do trad so if thats a hour WFP then your price is very reasonable. I am also presuming its about 20/30 mins travel.

Also, I work in scotland and from what I here, we are a little cheaper on average as compared to down south.

Hope that helps

If the customer and more importantly you are happy then officially everbody is happy.

As long as you give the taxman his share then im sure that you are onto a winner.

no idea where you are located, as no info in profile, there does seem to be a regional difference in prices , but if custys are happy then stick with it , the only thing i would say is you have only been wcing 8 mths , so you are not yet up to full speed, when you are you will be doing them quicker, thats when custys are liable to question prices

Hi
Someone on here once said that if you get all the work you quote on then you are too cheap. If you don't get any of the work you quote for then you are too expensive. He aims for 60 - 40. Price so you get about 60% of your quotes. As you get more customers, quote to get 40%. Keep the better paid work and sift off the dregs at the bottom.

agree 100%!

So long as the custie is willing to pay, then no,.. you're not over charging!

You offer a valuable and professional service,... would a plumber be embarrassed to charge that kind of hourly rate?

Why would you round it down

for the sake of a pound?   ??? How much difference will that make?   All my work is in multiples of £5.  With a minimum price of £10.  Keeps it simpler.  Ok so maybe he could have rounded it up to £65.  Just that extra £1 seemed strange.
Just my opinion mr washers but obviously not yours.
