Does anyone ACTUALLY know ?

Hi all,we all know ladders are not and will never be banned but when does it become illegal to use a ladder,
is there a certain height and time that you can use a ladder before it needs to be either tied off or use a stabalising(spelling) device,
with all these newish 3 story houses being built is it ok to use a ladder,
cheers,Pole King  ;)

Don’t think you'll get insured about 15 feet so the three stories are out you'll need a WFP, do the tops from the inside, be seriously skilled with an extension pole or cherry picker(not really economical).

My sky installer had to put a bolt in the wall to access the dish which is 6' high and he didn't use the bolt. If they checked and he hadn't put the bolt in he would get the sack. So as long as you secure every climb no worries. If not and you fall there could be problems. A big fine for your employer, and poss no pay out for you.

They are kind of right if you are in scotland, bearing in mind in england there is no licence requirements for window cleaners, but I am in scotland. So when I started I had to get a licence from the local council, which has certain requirements, ie insured and police checked. They do the police check and you must show that you have an insurance policy in place. When I spoke to my insurance company they told me they will only insure me upto 15 feet on a ladder and did ask if I used a WFP. They also made it clear that any higher and I am not insured.

If the custies quote you as saying it's illegal you'll look bad, but i think in these circs the customer could be liable if there was an accident because they are allowing it knowingly.Their household insurer would be the best ones to ask because they will be the ones having to pay.

Without meaning to wind any ladder users up it's a fact that the health and safety boom is led by our claims culture. To some, if you believe the injury lawyers adverts, falling off a ladder could be the best thing that ever happened to them, and the start of many miserable years of litigation for the householder.
