Stain Protection for Carpet Tiles
« on: February 23, 2005, 11:06:52 am »
Anyone here ever stain protected carpet tiles.  I have been asked to do it and am wondering if there is any point on a heavily trafficked area.  Will it make any difference to how dirty they will get.

I was thinking of using Prochems product for the job, any recommendations or thoughts are appreciated.

Regards

Hi John, a customer of mine at a doctors surgery wanted stain protection on there carpet tiles, i made a point of saying that due to the amount of wear these tiles get it wouldnt last long but they were happy to still have it.
Ive found since ive been a C.C.( not long, only a year) as long as i dont promise miracles and im honest in how i think the treatment will last the customer is happy and im happy cos then i get called back (twice now with this doctors surgery to sort out stains)

all the best

Hi Martin,

Much the same philosophy as Myself,  I did tell the client (a creche) that I didnt think it would last long because of the traffic on the tiles.  What product did you use?

Thanks

John

HI john,
Stainguard from Extracta, works well in normal use. At the end of the day if customer wants it its more money in your pocket. You could always see if your customer would want a regular clean as well as the treatment.

Hi,
You need to find out what the tiles are made of.Most are polyprop are thus a stain protector would not adhere so would be of little use. Another problem I would forsee in that envioronment i.e creche is there will be alot of spills which if not attended to properly would turn into a mucky patch .The customer would probably not expect this to happen thus not be happy.
So-   Test what its made of .
Find out what customers expectations are.
Qualify what the product will & will not do.

Hi,
Another thing to bear in mind is most tiles are bitumen backed, so if the protector is solvent based, you may end up with horrible brown blemishes when the softened bitumen wicks to the surface. Agree with previous comments about protector being unable to cure on polypropolene.
