window cleaning query
« on: September 04, 2008, 10:37:19 pm »
been asked to clean windows in a block of flats, but the windows don`t open on 1 block. only 1 safety pane of glass. they are 1 and 2 floors up. what is the easiest/cheapest way to clean them. I will only be doing them once a month, and am being paid washers, but part of a communal area cleaning contract.

If you can reach them with an extension pole with applicator and squeegee on the end, this would probably be the cheapest way.  I see you are from Central Scotland which probably means that your water is soft.  If so, for the small amount of windows, you could probably get away with connecting a small DI vessel to a tap and connecting a pole to the DI vessel.  There would be an outlay for the pole and the vessel (plus possibly a couple of bits of hose) and a TDS meter to check on water purity but after that, you would only need to refresh the resin sometimes.  You wouldn't need a pump as the tap water pressure would provide what you need.
It does seem like overkill for such a small amount of glass but at least you would be able to do other jobs as well.
I hope nobody insists that you have to buy a license as well to clean a couple of panes of glass oce a month.
On reflection, maybe the best way is to see if you can find a reasonably priced WFP window cleaner to do it for you.
Not easy if you are being paid so low but it sounds like ladders are not an option for it due to H & S rules - especially that bit about 2nd floor.
