DI resin disposal

are there any environmental issues regarding throwing out spent resin.
i take mine to the tip, tell them what it is and throw it in the 'general rubbish' skip.
I doubt if they really know what it is, so I just want to make sure.

its basically polystyrene ,well styrene anyway so should be no problem taking it to tip
