Rubber Tyre marks again!
« on: August 12, 2008, 12:05:54 pm »
Can anyone advise me?

We clean some hard surface floors in quite narrow corridors/communal flats.  The concrete floors do have some sort of covering but I don't know what it is.  It's probably very common for internal hard floor surfaces.
Anyway it has got covered in ground in bike tyre marks which we have to remove and i don't know how.
We've tried scouring pads, hard surface cleaner neat, acetone, jiff type stuff.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try xylene thinners or WD40 gets most stubborn marks off
I'm always in the poo, it's just the depth that varies

Best thing for that would be a product made by Aqua mix called sealer and coating remover.
Natural stone floor restoration service.
Natural stone fixing and repairs.

Thanks for your advice so far.

I tried wd40 - no use at all I'm afraid.  I tried thinners this afternoon, it did the job!  But the fumes are going to make it impossible unfortunately.  H&S etc.  I would need about 50 litres!

I will look into Aqua mix sealer and coating remover.

Thanks for replies I really appreciate it.  This is a difficult one.

You should only need a moistened rag, wipe the marks off don't wash the surface with it

It's a solvent called Xylene. It's used to make acrylic sealer, to dilute it, re-emulisfy it and clean it off.
Your seal supplier should be able to supply it, they will call it xylene, thinners or  solvent
The exeption to this is of course resiblock (superior I think) as thats polyurathane and cant be cleaned off/re-emulsified with solvent
