Host machine problem
« on: February 21, 2005, 05:04:41 pm »
My host machine started to make a strange grinding noise this morning.  I reckon its bearings somewhere.  I've spoken to host in England who have explained what it could be.

Anyone ever stripped down a host machine to repair it and is it straight forward.

thanks
Mark

Hi Mark

I have one partially stripped at the moment. I need to remove the armature so it will be virtually completey disassembled when I've finished.

Take photo's at each stage.

Everything is logical for dis-assembly.

Ask Host UK about repacking the gear drive with grease and what spec.

Don't rush. Many screwheads will be borderline by now so take all precautions and prepare well. You may need an impact driver or carefull use of a screwdriver/hammer prior to undoing.

On top outside you will find some allen screws around the motor housing. I haven't been able to source a suitable US spec allen key yet, so this is holding me up.

Fit new carbon brushes on re-assembly and make sure they are a nice smooth/free fit.

If you remove the armature, clean the inside of the cooling vent screen.

If the correct bearings are available locally, try for the best brand you can get.

Safe and happy repairing :)

Thanks

Have you got a manual with a parts listing and placement guide?

I may just ship it over to Host to do the job for me as I havent got the time or paitence.

thanks
