Cheap laminator
« on: June 28, 2008, 03:05:40 pm »
I am building a collection of pictures showing different things that I might like to show to my customers. There are a few 'before and afters ' a picture of my water purifying setup in my garage and a couple showing general WFP window cleaning that might be useful to show new customers to give them an idea what I am talking about.

However, I want to laminate them because otherwise the ink runs if they get wet.

Does anyone know of a cheap laminator to buy?

I can get them done at a shop near where I live but it seems expensive for what it is.

Lidl's are advertising one coming out on Monday 30th:

Lervia A4 Laminator, speed A4 in 55 seconds, A5 in 40 seconds.  Comes with starter kit. 300 watt.  3 year warranty

£12.99

Others seem to have answered the questions about which laminators.  I would like throw in a bit of extra info as I assume you may not have laminated before.
Experiment on waste sheets first before trying to laminate your nice pictures - especially if you are using a hot laminator rather than a cold one.  Using the wrong temperature for the type of sheet you are using can cause bubbling.  Also, experiment regarding which type of laminating pouches you wish to use as some have glossier finishes than others.  Better to get it wrong on waste sheets than on your lovely pictures.
Apologies if you already knew this.

That's a good idea vince.

laminaters are good, i have one because I made lots of market price signs. I never had the problems shiner mentions, but i used to get the pouch stuck inside.

I bought a dearer one from staples that has a reverse (£100) my regret is that for (£120) i could have gone A3 instead of A4.

One of the functions on my computer lets me put lots of pics together on an a4 sheet(collage) this might be good as people generaly will only look at one page. (you'll struggle to hold there interest longer)

I got this one earlier this year,
ht tp://svp.co.uk/product/texet_lm270_a4_personal_laminator_4217
15 sheets included to practice with
Excellent company to deal with and it's cheap enough if you do what I did..... used it for a few days then threw it in the drawer ;D

How about using a display book instead?

This is a book with polypropylene covers and clear plastic pockets inside.

I use these for my other business.

They give great flexibility - you can change the pictures as better ones become available - and make changes quickly and easily.

That was the other option I was considering but I thought a laminator might be handy for other things as well ( can't think what mind you!) and my sons might find it handy for their school and college work.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. We have a Lidls in Pinner but I don't know if there is much chance of getting in there before the E-bayers buy them all up.

I wanted to buy a golf trolley they had advertised in Lidls. I don't play golf but I thought I could convert it for window cleaning.
However, when I went in ( on the first day I might add ) they had already gone. I asked one of the staff but he said every week when the special offers come out they get the same people coming in early buying ten of this one or five of that one to re-sell them on ebay.

Might be a good business idea for someone?

vince, why dont you just make a dvd to show your customers what it is all about, this acts as your buiness card as well,

do some copies and hand them out to all your new customers

I'm not really geared up to produce a DVD and what I wanted was something instant when you don't want to launch into a long discussion. A picture's worth a thousand words type of thing.
Virtually all my new customers come from recommendations these days so I don't have to try too hard to get them.
Its just really obvious sometimes that when you tell them how you clean the windows they haven't listened or taken any of it in.

I though a picture might be easier.

Another good idea.

That's what I like about this site, always something new.

Would you get a short video on a 2 gig sd card in my 12" laptop?
