On-line payments
« on: June 27, 2008, 08:44:36 pm »
Does anyone know how I can get card payments on my web-site ie visa, master card etc.

I have a fair few up market custy's and I doubt very much if they have paypal accounts so I would sooner offer credit and debit card accounts and not paypal.

Why not just get them to pay into your account via their online banking?

Hi Jeff,

I will be very surprised if they dont have a paypal account.

There are nochex and paypal I would recommend, you can have something like net pay netabanx etc but they cost you money to set up and is on going.

most people know what paypal is and would use them.
for a small amount of customers I would recommend going that way, now if it is for hundreds of online account payments then other options can be used.

Why not get them to set up standing orders, or direct bank transfer (no paypal charge that way)
I have more people pay direct into business account online than with paypal.

I already have standing orders, or direct bank transfers, I want to widen my payment scheme, if you lived were I live, then you will realise that not everyone wants or has paypal accounts, I have one but I want the money in my business account and not a paypal account.

Some of my older custy's don't even know what ebay or paypal is? but they do own credit/debit cards.

Come September there will be no more friday night collections, Just trying to sort something out now, I already leave send a chueqe/postal orders but with more and more post offices closing the method is shrinking and not everyone has chueqe books anymore, because more and more supermarkets are no longer excepting them.
Card payments are the best option.

You can get handheld pdq machines, it really depends on the amount that will come in this way if it is to be viable for you Jeff, you could always get one at home then take phone payments least that takes the internet paypal and ebay out of it.

I just don't like paypal and I hear there costs have just gone up? I have to wait 28 days for some payments so 5/7 days is nothing, I want my money paid into my business account and not a seperate account, this way I can keep track of my payments without logging into paypal every time I'm waiting for a payment.

You dont need a paypal account to pay for stuff over a website anymore.....

Then please Give me some idea's and pointers? its all new to me :'(

paypal takes upto 9 days to transfer to your bank, and its incredibly tedious filling in all thier demands for unlimiting receiving amounts, all your details, i wouldnt mind the charges if it was easier to setup and quicker! then it could be a good replacement for a cheque.
The pdq wireless machine seems a good possibilty. I used to have a paypal page direct on my website, and i had several customers use it, just make it simple and easy to use, set the amount to 0.00 and then the customer has to fill in the amount, and put your business name on it, so it says 'we manage payments for 'dadada' and voila.

Cost is the main factor. Looked into it with the bank and the cheepest was £30 per month PLUS 2-5% of money paid. Might be a bit long winded setting up and transferingacross but paypal / nochex is a lot cheeper. If you want the money paid directly to your business acidiot then just give your customers your sortcod and account number and they can transfer from their account to yours. Depending on your bank account set up this could be free....

I give a lot of my customers my bank details, for those that bank on-line, this is so much easier.

Sorry Jeff. Having read the posts since mine, the paypal solution probably isn't for you.

The only thing I would say is that I was in charge of a website in my previous job and the banking world made us jump through hoops to get an online merchant account up and working. I don't know whether that is typical, but thought it might be useful info.
