jet wash con roof
« on: June 15, 2008, 08:37:10 am »
had to a con roof yesterday and it was that bad, green all over, that i decided to use my jet wash
(normally do with wfp pole and tap water then rinse with pure water)
the customer had no probs with me using jet wash.

do any of you other guys do it this way?

it probably wont hurt to use a jet wash but i would say be real carefull you dont break any seals, because it would be expensive to get repaired.

This was the way I did most con roofs before, just dont direct and sills, I always say to customers you may get a little water inside and to cover anything of value.

i would never use a jet wash, even if your carefull around the seals,
your just asking for trouble. its just to powerful.

ww how do your customers feel when you tell them 'you may get some water inside'?  :o
dont think its very professional

i know if somone was cleaning my conserverty and they told me that  i wouldnt have them.
thats not a dig mate  :)

first of all I dont take it as a dig  ;) if you dont tell them this your leaving yourself wide open IMO, I would not pressure clean a sill either, I tend to be honest and jampot if I spoke to you face to face and you was looking for this service I think you would use us, the written word is not the best a spoken word I seem to do very well on ;)

Really heavy soiling on the roof? TERRIFIC!!

Look at it. Take a sharp intake of breath and tell the customer that this is going to be a tricky job and attract a really heavy loading - say 150 or even 200% of regular price.

Then just use the normal techniques AND LET THE TFR AND THE WATER DO THE WORK which will clear the worst muck - just takes a little longer.

I used to use a pressure washer and extendible lance on all my conservatory roof cleans but i had a fair few leak.

Now i put TFR on and use WFP and no leaks.

Its not often i do any conservatory roofs now rather concentrate just on window cleaning.

Take care you don't blast water up under the lead flashing, lots of water down the walls then, if its plastered it can be damaged along with any electrics that may be on the wall.

Spot on,i would never use 1 again it blasts off the paint and leaks through the lead-seals,never again.

not being used correctly if this happens IMO, I made a few cock ups when I first started using a pressure washer soon learned the errors of doing it wrong, I very rarely use it now tend to go wfp tfr and sometimes applicator.

Pressure washer is good for facias / soffits and gutters, but personally I prefer the slow and steady TFR and tap water for a con roof.  Takes an hour, but little chance of leaking or water ingress.
