Just an observation, not aimed at individuals.

Why do we so often see questions on all forums from carpet cleaners like "Who does the cheapest XYZ chemicals/pumps/vacs/Sebo/Envirodri..................  We rarely see questions like "Who's the BEST Prochem distributor etc.

Then again, we often hear, on all the forums, statements such as  "I tell my customers I may not be the cheapest, but I'm the best"

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Thats a very good point Ken. I would say however that there is more scope (negative or postive) for service on the delivery of a skill than the supply of a product.

That said, many mention various suppliers service levels both good and bad.

Quite Pete

An extra day taken for delivery because of, say, a £10 saving, is easily lost if you are loosing out on a £200 job :'(

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Ken, supplys are all the same, ie the product is the same from x,y,or z, therefore they compete on price. If you lose £200 because you have to wait for chemicals as you have none then you need to get a stock and order system under way. ;)
We as service professionals dont compete on price alone as there are other variables in the equation such as experience, equipment, training etc etc.

I know a cleaner, who while he is cleaning, calculates the cost to the nearest tenth of a penny per sq mt of the cleaning solution. He will then switch suppliers to the cheapest.
The cost of chemicals is a very minor part of your overall cost. (Especially with diesel costs nowadays)
To choose the chemical entirely on cost is IMO short-sighted. The cleaning solution should be chosen on the best performing chemical that suits your method of working. A few pence here and there is unimportant.

Hi Guys

I built a good relationship with my local supplier which led to several referrals .

Unfortunately they were taken over and moved and the new supplier is not as good, it does pay generally to use local suppliers if the costs are roughly equivalent.

I was speaking to a CC the other day who said his local supplier had won dealer of the year several times but was insisting Pureclean contained hardly anything and was like cleaning with water.

When the CC tried to explain 'microsplitter' aka sodium tripolyphosphate the supplier looked bemused.

There is so much knowledge on here maybe suppliers should log on more.

Cheers

Doug

My local supplier stocks Prochem products (a pretty good range too) but he does'nt stock pureclean. To be fair to the supplier it is also down to Prochem to be more pro-active in telling the mkt about their products. They would sell so much more if they did.

A lot of Prochem products are sold to the corporate sector, ie carehomes , hospitals, facilities companies etc. The range is stocked by a lot of janitorial suppliers who serve this sector rather than specialists who deal primarily with carpet cleaners.
