Moss on conservatory roofs.
« on: May 02, 2008, 09:18:02 pm »
Cleaned my first really manky conservatory today. Great feeling to see it come up so clean and the customer was DELIGHTED!!!

The job, however, took me the best part of three hours.

I used ordinary tap water blasting through my Vikan fitted with fan jets. In retrospect, I think I should have used my other Vikan fitted with pencil jets. That would have given a faster flow rate and taken the crud away faster.

The green stuff (algae?) came off the polycarbonate roof sections easily enough. It took a bit of scrubbing, but not too much. The roof bars were a different matter. I really had to scrub these and they still didn't come up perfect.

In a few places there were quite luscious growths of moss - and the brush hardly touched them.

I finished off the sides with 000.

Questions:

* Could I have used tfr and what difference would it have made?

* Where do I buy tfr? Does Halfords stock it?

* What brands should I go for?

* Is there a chemical to remove the moss or is it just scrub, and scrub some more or can I use some form of scraper?

* Could/should I use a stiffer brush for scrubbing the roof?

Want to do more of these. As soon as I get fast, it looks like fun work and lucrative as well.

I don't think Halfords sells tfr but Machine Mart does. I just use a garden spray filled with a strong mix of washing up liquid. That works well enough.

dont bother with tfr. try auto glym caravan and motorhome cleanerabout £6 litre. caravan dealers use it to remove algae and black streaks from vans left out over winter. wet roof spray from bottle undiluted leave for a minute or so when you see the algae start to run, brush it and rinse. iv'e used it for years on conservatory roofs and it is excellent. try it, i guarantee you wont be dissapointed.

you could try a hilo stiff brissle this would remove the dirt much easier. pour pvc cleaner over the brush head and give the centre collums a good scrub. i use mp9 a premier product on the roof itself. find this method works well

I learned something from a custie yesterday about moss. It grows quicker on North facing side, thought I'd share that tip with everyone.
