best paid residential job
« on: May 03, 2008, 09:40:55 pm »
Got a call last month.
Can you come and clean the windows please, I need them done by 2nd May as we are going to Manaco for 3 weeks (kerching) and would like them clean for when we get back, theres no need to come out to give me a quotation just as long as you can do them. If you can, it would be great. It doesn't matter about the cost (kerching) as i am desperate to find someone reliable. I live in Belgravia (kerching), can you do them?
Yes I most certainly can.

Went there on Thursday, done the job, me and the boy dragged it out to 4 hours.
'Right, thats me done'
'ok, thank you so much. There you go'

she gives me £300 + £60 tip in cold hard cash and doesn't bat an eyelid.

How do they do it?

I clean a Convent and get paid by cheque. The cheque is in the name of The Dominican Sisters of Mercy.

Had I realised, I could have quoted anything and they would have paid it. Money is simply not a concern to them.

But look at what other tradesmen are charging. We are having a lot of building work done at the moment and our builder is great but he's not allowed to do the electrics any more by law.
Quote from an outside electrician to supply and fit two flourescent strip lights, two switches and three double sockets in a garage plus and external light was £600.

Its all surface mounted and the power is already out from the fuse box to the garage.

Thats £100 for materials and £500 for an easy day's work.

by adding posts like this everyone is going to want to be a window cleaner, because it takes far too long to become a qualified sparky,

what about the neighbours in belgravia? you could build one hell of round up there??!!!!!!!!!

Actually, houses in Belgravia are pretty difficult windows to clean. Three/ four story town houses with poor access and no parking. Plus lots of spiky railings.

Its actually not as good as it sounds, which is possibly why they are finding it hard to get window cleaners. On the other hand anyone who owns one of those houses is minted.

ahhhh I can only dream of people paying me 300 for a house.

can I tell you my best paid 'dream' residential.

Its a tiny bungalow with just one window on the front and 2 on the back.  They're minted and pay me £450 per clean (twice a week).

dream over.

Saying about tiny bungalows, there are some old peoples homes near me that are like holiday camp chalets. One window at the front and two at the back.

I was trying to get in there to clean them, I could visualise just walking along doing them all one after the other. Absolute doddle.

Most of them didn't want to pay to have them cleaned. They thought the housing association should pay.

I think the housing association should pay too - remember some of the old folks have paid their stamp all their lives, have been through much harder times than you or I and how do they get repaid?  They don't.

Hi,

Kevin - this is the sound an old cash register made. More of a ker-CHINGGGG. Hence every reference to being able to put in a decent price makes him hear that sound in his mind - so to speak.

So did you quote her.... or just give her a price at the end?

to be fair to sparkies though, they pay a few quid to be able to sign that work off and give you a certificate

I think the housing association should pay too - remember some of the old folks have paid their stamp all their lives, have been through much harder times than you or I and how do they get repaid?  They don't.

The ones who had paid their stamps all their lives were  the ones who wanted to pay me to clean their windows now.

The ones who didn't want to pay, for the most part, have never paid a penny in their lives and are living for free now thanks to housing benefit and income support.
