Employed + Self employed ?
« on: April 27, 2008, 09:33:00 pm »
Can one person be EMPLOYED as a window cleaner say 20 hours a week, whilst also being SELF EMPLOYED as a window cleaner doing jobs for themselves.

Seperate accounts, jobs, vehicles, gear, insurances everything.........

What do ya all know!?? :)

I can't see it being any different than part time employed in any other occupation and self employed doing your own work.
Just make sure the taxman knows that you are self employed and there shouldn't be a problem.
Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.

Just like any other jobs, you can be employed by one person and then have your own SE work.

If you really do have self employed work of your own, you could always be sub-contacted instead of being employed.

You can be employed and self employed at the same time, but get an accountant to do your books as the taxman will slaughter you

It's about CONTROL

A gives B 20 hours work a week to be done Mon, Wed, Fri @ 10 - 4
A agrees weekly payment
A supplies B tools & materials & set price per week
A is really controlling, so A is Employer

Same scenario:
A gives B work that could take 20 hours per week, B does it how and when he wants, maybe faster/slower
B submits monthly invoice to A
B supplies own tools & materials, may buy them from A on monthly payment arrangement
B now has more control, so B is self-employed

simply put, if you are su-contrating work to be self employed, you must have something at risk-ei: tools, van etc. if you are self employed and finding your own work it don't matter
