freedom 300 ro question
« on: April 10, 2008, 05:29:05 pm »
I have just bought a 300GPD REVERSE OSMOSIS from pure freedom
The tds is is very good coming out at 9-11 where as my old merlin was between 50-70
So i’m happy with that, however the flow rate to my holding tank is very slow indeed infact it’s more of a trickle than a flow.
I’ve heard others mention that by putting a booster pump in line before the ro this will increase the output flow, is this correct?
If so where do i get one from?
How much are they?
And does it just connect inline from a half inch garden hose?

Thanx in advance

I have one of these for my static system.

They are far better than Merlins at removing TDS but do produce a lot slower. A booster pump should make quite a difference. I was running mine without a booster pump for quite a while but the output dropped through the cold weather. From what I understand this is the same for all RO systems.

Spoke to Andrew McCann and he advised me to get the RO-MAN booster pump for it and its made a big difference. My TDS out also dropped :)

This is the one I have   OOPS the RO_MAN site isn't working for me at the mo... lol

Anyway the one you want is the 100 to 300 GPD one. It only comes with fittings for the small size RO piping so I put it between the prefilters and the first membrane housing.. HAppy Daze again  :)

No prob Grafters :)

Naaa didn't double the speed. Up by about 50% (Ish)  It was about £80 delivered.

Ur prob is that ur used to the Merlin output so this will seem a lot slower. I've also got 2 x 40 inch RO systems in vans and they gush out.

I think the Merlin is pretty rubbish. The waste is horrendous whereas with the 300 its about 1 to 1 product to waste with the booster pump.
I suppose if ur source water pressure is rubbish then the booster pump could quite possibly double ur output.

I had one of these PF 300gpd ones too, output was about 200-250 ltrs per 24 hours without booster pump. Though once you get it going and say have two ibcs, one can be filling over the weekend or off days and keep the cycle up. Mine was on almost all the time 24/7, but the tds output is good, thing is even though the tap pressure maybe reasonable, they dont let all that water through, and takes a long time going through all the filters. Now its twin 4040 :-)

well, depends what your outside water pressure is? mine i would guess is about 30-40 with those results. A booster pump should probably do it in 24 hours but i dont think their made to run continuously. I know they never acheive what their supposed to like 300gpd is more than 1000ltrs, but if your pressure is just under what the ro housing can take i guess it can. Best to find out your tap pressure before getting a booster and see.

my booster pump has john guest fittings.
without booster my 300gpd produces 250 litres in 9 hours with a tds after RO (before DI) at 14 ppm.

with booster it's 250 litre in 51/2 hours with a tds of 7 before DI vessel.
