stay off me patches
« on: March 04, 2008, 08:37:18 pm »
been canvassing all over the area lately so i knew this situation would happen sooner or later. guy rings me today and threatens to burn me van out unless i stay off his patches.......(if only i had a van) any way after a lot of reassurances that i would never quote if they already had a window cleaner...which i don't. he seemed ok..however is it just me or do you find this sort of thing common,i think theres no such thing as patches ,surely if there was he would have every house in the street and i might as well just pack up and go home.......anyway it,s just made me more determined to succeed

i have given my address out before now to someone like that (its easily found in yellow pages), these people are thick as S@@T, bring it on i say muppets!!
If they were going to do something they would instead of making empty threats on the phone!

Immediately report jokers like that to the police. Ofcourse first ask friendly what his name is and where he is from.  ;)

Threats like that can be taken to the police easily.

Yes you are right, patches are certainly not there.

what he said  ;D as for the threats ....i wouldnt worry too much about that imo the ones to worry about are not the ones who ring up and threaten over the phone ;)

True, but still, they shouldn't think they can get away with it.

If he`d had said that to me i would have asked him if he could come round and do it now as i`m in and waiting for him,you could have asked him where he lived  and said i`ll be round as soon as i can, wait in for me.

last week doing houses on little cul de sac estate, trad bloke turns up starts doing a house who messed me about , he was doing his best to avoid looking over so in the end i went and said hello, you could almost see the relief in his face when ice was broken and we end up chatting for about half hour,he had been doing some of the other houses for 2 years(i been down there for 3!!!)and we had never seen each other before :o ::) anyway i gave him aflyer and he wrote his name and number down....then we realised we had been at junior school together and that he used to knock about with my brother ;D...much better way of working,i think the threat brigade must be very insecure about their customer loyalty

patches?  ball locks.

if a custy has asked you to quote their home and to clean the windows then whats the problem.  we've had a few in our time but they never last, these are the guys who either make bug'er all from window cleaning or end up quitting.

they usually run a mile anyway (there's 4 of us - all big too - well big softies but even so)
I've never been to bed with an ugly bird but I've woken up with loads!

there's been a few on here who think patches exist. But it seems to be a city thing.

guy rings me today and threatens to burn me van out unless i stay off his patches.......(if only i had a van) any way after a lot of reassurances that i would never quote if they already had a window cleaner...which i don't. he seemed ok..

Yep he sounds like an ok guy.  ::)
If he is that insecure there is a good chance he is crap or had complaints.
So it might be worth your while doubling your efforts in the area he works. Just don't go in cheap.
Oh and make sure you have fire and theft insurance for your vehicle.  ;D

i'll bet it was a withheld number too!!

I wouldn't worry about the ones that talk about being on their patch, no such thing nowadays.

And like you say they can't have every person on the street or even in the whole area; their just cowboys who want some beer money really.
