I have had two 40 40 membranes in 5 months.
One lasted 4 months the other only a month. My previous one lasted almost three years.
Newly fitted TDS before DI is 6ppm. After this short time its 200ppm.
I have spoken to RO Man, who is very helful indeed.
On Martins (at RO Man) advice I have changed all fittings and pipework to 15mm, lubricated seals before tightening, bought long life carbon/ sediment filters and changed the flow rate through the RO.
I have also used a swimming pool tester kit to see if there is chlorine present after the carbon filter. There is!
Would this test be accurate for chlorine or does it test for a number of elements.
I am about to order another membrane and don't want to get another for a while.

Absolutely any help would be appreciated as buying membranes is becoming a bit of an expensive hobby.

Whats your tds to begin with.  I have mine running with a water softener and the tds out is 2.  I've had it for over a year and the tds hasn't crept up at all.  I think a water softener really works wonders.

Whats your TDS at the tap before softener and filters.
Also what is your PSI.

My tap is 280, after RO its 12 then Di 0, would i benefit a softner or is it pointless?

Tds is around 400, my water pressure I think is just over 40 psi but I have a booster pump on the system.  But in the year I've had it my tds has never gone up from the RO and I put this down to the water softener. I've only changed the prefilters once.

the softner is sometimes a good idea  although i never use them ,

sorry to say sounds like you have some cheap import membraine from china, a few of us suppliers had probs a while back, no matter what is told you stand your ground the r/o should not creep up that high that quick seeing that you had no probs before,

 i went back to my oringinal supplier,  and just payed more for reliable qualitie r/o man i think bought from similar sorce, i would send it back demand money back then go see june from gaps water shes a good lass and will offer excellent after sales service

I had a with my membranes getting knackered far too quickly - even though I changed pre-filters at the right time.  It was eventually resolved by adding an iron pre-filter.  My supply comes from Sutton & East Surrey.  If you are in south London, yours may do too.  It appears that the flooding and excessive rain we had last year may have caused iron deposits to enter the water supply (guessing) as there was increase of this sort of problem around that time.  Certainly the iron pre-filter seems to have rectified things.  My RO was not a 40/40 but such a problem (if indeed this IS your problem) would not be RO specific anyway.
