I have just bought the CFR hand tool for upholstery cleaning . Excuse my ignorance but there are no instructions. I am unsure what to do with the dial on the top?

Can any body help with some advice and tips please?

Kev if using with a porty do nothing. But if you use it with a truck and the suction is too great you can adjust the air flow accordinly.
I use my truck on just under half revs when doing upholstery and find that I dont need to open the top of the hand tool slots.

Just play around with it until your comfortable with the flow rate.

They are hard to use at first.

Just not as easy to use/control/manovoure as other hand tools, takes a bi of getting used to and your hand will ache on the first cople of suites you do until you get used to it.
In my opinion though the best hand tool on the market .

I meant to say the best hand tool with a truckmount. When using a porty my most favourite hand tool is the Kleenrite swivel head,which is a dream to use but does not get on with high psi or high vacuum.

It's all about balancing suction and airflow, experiment with different settings and you
will find a variety of settings for various fabrics.
You must have heard all the arguments about VO and AO machines.
CFR handtools allow you the best of both worlds. Get it set just right for the fabric
you are cleaning, and it will almost leave it dry. Vary the pressure also, i clean anywhere from
150 psi up to 300 psi, dependant on fabric and soiling, with the vents anywhere from closed, usually up to maximum
of 2 open. Most common half or one.

I used mine for the first time on Tuesday and my arm did ache,I found the trigger is alot further away from the tool than my Extracta tool putting alot of strain on my forearm.  The results were great and no wet sheets on the floor.

Some people may find this useful. On another forum a nice chap named Moppy has done this modification to his handtool to relieve some of the pressure in the wrist. I may be tinkering with the same approach.

Cant see any modification to that hand tools looks like standard cfr to me.
I have cut my trigger down by half as your hand is too far back using the full trigger.

I have also done that modification and it has helped very much.
I also find that i use 100% more fluid with that hand tool as more is sucked away without it cleaning anything.

I ve used cfr hand tool for 4 years, arm ached for first few weeks, but once muscles adjusted been fine

Why they dont make them shorter like that I dont know??

Ive used mine to clean armchairs with a spotting machine at 100psi with great results and drying, just like AJB says adjust the the balance

Look again Paul, the 3"brass pipe between the valve and the jet as been shortened.
