What should I do
« on: January 29, 2008, 05:37:45 pm »
Hi All,

I cleaned for a customer the other day. He's been with me a couple of years. Very nice bloke. About 70. Always gives me a tip and a bottle of wine at Christmas.

He said that straight after the last time i came, there was a pool of water in between the double glazing on his bedroom window. I checked this out and sure enough there were water marks all the way down the inside of the frames.

He said that they'd probably not had the weather to dry out properly but I can't see these marks ever coming off from the insides of the glass.

It's on fairly decent windows with the white sealant around the edge of the glass. I reckon it's a simple case of the seals having blown, but could it have been caused as a direct result of useing wfp.

After some advice on what to say to him to explain that it's probably not my fault the seals have gone but if i'd been cleaning them trad this wouldn't have been a problem anyway.

Regards,
Lance

Windows can blow quite quickly. I've never seen any evidence that they blow due to being cleaned - trad or wfp.

Sealed Units can blow quickly, especially when fitted badly, some cowboys knock the units in with hammers, which split the mastic seals.

Moisture will begin to build up within the units, and when we come along and clean the glass with cold water, it causes the moisture within the units, to condense on the internal surfaces. Thus making it appear that it is our water that has leaked into the units.

I once had an irate customer accusing me of breaking his sealed units, and I had to explain this to him, he went away muttering that he had friends in the industry and he would check up, well I still do his windows several years later !

Seriously though, i once had a customer when i changed to WFP that screemed at me from an upstairs window to let me know i had flooded her room! the water from my pole had gone between her UPVC frames and the brick as the mastic had worn away, it had run down the inside of her wall onto the floor.

Like you this was not my fault but she never gave me a bottle of wine at Christmas so due to her attitude i binned her.

Always seem to get the blame for things not down to me. I have knocked off at least half a dozen door bells with my brush and re-aligned countless satellite dishes but no one has ever said anything!
