how would you word this
« on: January 26, 2008, 05:30:27 pm »
i was passed on a customer from someone who was doing it for £10, however in between me taking them on they had another conservatory put on..yes 2 conservatorys. i wasnt told about this and be grudged doing it, but did it for 3 months then said to them, ive been cleaning under their prices, im going to have to put the price up to £20. the lady was fine about this and said..."well we were getting a bargain anyway"

but then as usual the bloke goes and spoils it, everytime i go he asks "how much is it?"

then the time before last he said to leave his offic, 4 piddly windows "to save some money" and i still charged him £20 and explained its be a heck of a lot more if id of come and priced it

i know what your all gonna say, why the hell are you still going! but i do the whole cul d sac, so might as well

but then he topped it when i got my cheque through the post, "cheque enclosed for £20. we have decided to change our arrangement and want it doing every other month. so the next clean will fall in march" (yer, derrrrr)

so im going to write to letter to him before i go back something along the lines of

"As you have changed our arrangement there will be a 50% increase in price as the windows are cleaned less regulary therefore gathering more dirt. The new price will be £30."

Ok that isnt worded very well, so help there please, and how would i put at the end, "if you do not want this please contact me" or something like that. my english skills arent the best  ;D

I welcome 12 week customers as I charge more than 6 weeklies (my normal rota).  It means I can have more customers and for every minue spent working I earn more. If i was me I would make it £25 and explain that clearly as the windows are to be left for longer there will be more dirt to clean off.  Personally £30 may be viewed as taking the micky

I know exactly what you mean its the kind of job that even if it was double money its not worth it because of the hassle he gives you
"Just cancel will you" thats what i think when i come across these type of customer

you need to do a couple of things here....

1st they need to appreciate your service
2nd they need to see that you don't need their custom to carry on

so i wouldn't even write that letter to them, it shows that you care too much and that your wound up.
just miss them out , do all the others.....if you have the majority in the cul de sac, you wont lose them to another wc
and even if they did get a price from anothr wc they would probably be shocked as they have been spoilt.

eventualy when their windows are manky, they will come out and ask you, when they do , give them the new price, and explain  x amount for 4 weekly ,x amount for 8 weekly, and say you will fit them in if you have time after doing the others, but be polite and smile,  it normally works for me ;)

its called mind games ;D

Matt, just be honest with them and say that you are not prepared to clean their windows at £xxx? because you had taken it over from someone else. Since then they have had extensions which hasn't been reflected in the price. The clean interval is less frequent and as a result of all the above you wish to requote with your own amended price and if they don't accept it then thank them for their previous custom and wish them well gettig a replacement window cleaner.

Just tell them the price, if they don't like it walk away. Don't waste your time with people like this.

If you really didn't want the job you could post a note through next time your around saying you don't take on work every other month and so they'll have to find another WC.  Then if they come out to you in a few months time reprice it to what you want.  You run the risk of letting another WC in the cul de sac though.

i would reply that you appreciate that they are trying to save money on their window cleaning costs by having them cleaned less often, but all your customers who have longer intervals between cleans do not get the discounted rate that they are currently paying, if they require the cleaning to be done at the new interval the revised price would be £30, please feel free to obtain other qoutes and because i already clean a large propotion of properties in this area i will try my best to match the prices you obtain.
by putting it this way you not only show that your not afraid of any competition and believe your prices are competitive but if they return to you with some qoutes they have obtained it will give you an idea of what others in your area are charging and whether they could be a threat to taking any more of your work.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

I personally I would dump them.

But I would send them a letter saying.

Thank you for your request to change your window cleaning rota to 8 weekly, this is acceptable by me and your bill will be altered accordingly.

Your bill is worked out at £5.00 per week between cleans, so on a 8 weekly cleaning cycle your bill will be £40.00.

I would not write a leeter at all, I would go and clean it when asked and charge the new price, when or if they say anything say thats what we charge for bi monthly cleans if they cancel let me as I can see them chnaging again if they dont the problem, is solved.

I used to clean the same price 2 monthly as i did a normal clean  :-[ i learnt very quick i was working for less if i did this, 50% more for 2 month clean 3 months is a one-off price which is double or more

Spot on! People appriciate honesty, and I shows your integrity. He might say no thanks but he'll soon be back when his extravigant property look like poop. Rich people are always tight, thats why they're rich!
