Tax man and earnings
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:11:30 pm »
Due to the wet weather in June/July, with the loss of about 4/5 weeks working and being unable to work for 6 weeks with the current throat/chest virus I fully expect my income to be well down on the previous year. Therefore will the taxman expect/need an explanation for this reduction when next completing a self assesment, or will he accept figures without any questions asked? I would no doubt expect to receive a refund next year. But I'll still have to pay the amount due 31st January despite no work for 6 weeks.
I've always but a bit by for that 'rainy day' but didn't expect quite so many.

It's up to you if you choose to take 10 weeks off. If you use an accountant he will ask these questions and submit the explanation accordingly.
If you do your own submissions then it might be worth putting some paperwork in stating why you earned so little over those months, with any proof.
