Leaflets
« on: January 16, 2008, 01:38:34 pm »
Is it really worth it going out in the cold at this time of year for a few hours delivering leaflets.
I have been out a few times but with not much response so have decided to take it easy for a while.
I know some customers hold on to your leaflets but think the conversion rate per 1000 is not worth it.
keep warm.

Diomond,

what reponce do you get per 1000 ?

if you get only 1 per 1000, surly it is worth it , after all as you say you are keeping warm and doing nothing.

Have you tried running, that will keep you warm whilst delivering ;)  and more leaflets delivered.

Having said that , it is only you who knows what you want from your buisness and what you need to survive.
but my advise , get out there

Really only started CCing in earnest in Novemeber

November - sent letters to existing customers - got some pre-Xmas business.

December - sent out a newsletter to existing customers
                 - put postcards in local newsagents for a couple of weeks - got some pre-Xmas business.

Delivered leaflets for a couple of hours some days throughout December whilst not cleaning.

Nil reponse... until January. Filled last week, this week, and half of next week as a direct result of my efforts. Would have starved otherwise.

Leaflets do work...but not always immediately, and you will feel better. I've delivered leaflets in the snow - set yourself a small target and reward yourself if you do it (mine usually involves whisky).

There is no formula with marketing - sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not, but if you don't market you will be hungry and homeless unless you have a steady flow of referrals.

Just jumped over from the window cleaning section!

When im looking for extra business i have a company put mine out, 10,000 at a time.

Response rate for w/c is around 0.5%, which means 50 new customers per 10,000.

It costs me £265 + vat per 10,000 to be delivered.

Surely this must be cost effective in carpet cleaning?

I have always looked into c/cleaning, and if i ever did do it, i think this would be the way forward for me, 5-10,000 per month.

Does anyone rely on leaflets for their work ?

With rgds to leaflets, why does this board seem like groundhog day?

Diamond, if the cold weather puts a stop to you delivering your leaflets then find another career path!!

How much is "A few times"? You have got to perservere. As I've said before there are no shortcuts, just hard graft when, for example you deliver 1000 flyers in the pouring rain and get nil response.

The trick is to keep delivering to the same houses every 2 months. Eventually your name will become synonomous (sp) with carpet cleaning. THAT'S WHEN YOU MAKE REAL MONEY

I want to do a leaflet run but my problems is distributing them.

What methods do people use to get large volumes out at a time.

Our local paper is no good as there are too many leaflets folded inside each other.

Local companies seem to want around £45/1000 and then they go out with other leaflets so may not even get seen on their way to the bin.

Any one got any ideas or know of any companies round here (n.e. hants) that deliver at better prices / without several other leaflets.

Cheers

The only way to make sure they are been delivered correctly is to take them out yourself or use family and friends, its as simple as that. Some maybe lucky enough to have found someone relikable that will actually deliver them properly, we have gone through dozens of people over the last 8 years and find that they will dump half of them or put 3 through each letterbox. Try and do 2 or 3 hours each morning before you stasrt cleaning this should get 3000 a week out, if your wife helps  6000.

I would deliver myself as then you can target your own customers, I'm just about to start in hard floor cleaning/carpet cleaning. And when i get leaflets printed they will not look cheap first impression really count.
Natural stone floor restoration service.

That is a good idea would also get feedback

Could be cheaper than Newsletters but put two together and we have a money machine

At one point I got very dispondent about leafleting as a marketing method, but now I realise for a self starter they are,  well, the start.

There are a couple of peopl on here I gave some stick about leaflets, but I take it all back. If you are disciplined about putting enough volume out they will work.

The key is it's not rocket science, it's just discipline. email DP Print or whatever their name is and get their samples. Pick one you like and personally deliver 8-10k/month in reasonable areas and you will have work.

If you don't (and I'm guilty of this) it's because you got lazy and stopped delivering when the work comes in!

Try not to think so much about the 2 jobs/1000 but focus on how you can capitalise on them.

I now have a very systemised procedure.

Quote: don't go cheap on price, upsell for extra rooms, suites etc.

post job:  'satisfaction survey' (referalls and testimonial. cross sell maintenence plan proposal, spotters, vacuums, sliders etc

Neighbour nudgers

Added to mailing list forever-have a good reason to correspond every 1-2 months.

I'm pretty lazy, that's why I'm so discipline with the post sales stuff.

Hi Guys

Keep plugging away.

Find someone reliable to deliver as well, I used to have several .It's difficult but if you don't try you definitely will not.

It really is a matter of numbers and like any probability distribution the more you do the closer you will get to your mean.

Cheers
