Melted plastic!
« on: November 19, 2004, 04:07:34 pm »
Hi Guys

Have a couple of salvage jobs coming up in a letting situation. Have done some spotting pre-testing and looks like most of it will come out.

On one of the carpets there is some hard, melted pink plastic, I can see the fibres underneath, carpet is synthetic but not polyprop.

I am thinking of using a warm iron and paper to re-melt and absorb.

Any other suggestions would be greatly received.

Regards

Hi Martin

I had something similar earlier this year on wool. I softened the plastic as you suggested, but then teased it away from the yarn using a sharp craft knife. 100% successful. You don't want to melt the plastic as you'll probably melt the carpet fibre too. Just soften it. There's a high possibility that the yarn beneath has already been melted by the accident.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
