c/c thiefs
« on: November 29, 2007, 01:45:17 pm »

just had a phone conversation with my son,

He informs me is mates mother has just been taken to the cleaners by 2 c/c " excuse the pun" :)

apparently leaflet drop , she calls them to have carpets cleaned , they turn up and unload a small machine from car inform her she will have to stay out of the room for a couple of hours.

they wet her carpet, load back up . and whilst she was out of the way rifled her belongings, cash jewelrey , clocks watches etc any thing they could get their hands on. How devious, and what sort of immpression will this put on the genuine local c/c  ?

I havnt got the exact details yet, but have asked him to try get hold of a flyer for me.

What I cant get my head round, is if they have leafleted the area, they are indeed c/c working for a company , and were just been opportunist, or they have deliberatly set this up with sole intentions of theft! :-\

Finding out the facts for a start...You know what urban myths are like. Funny that no one ever remembers the exact name of the alleged businesses involved. I'd let the alleged victim deal with it by contacting the police...and say nothing or speculate nothing myself until the facts were known. If true, it does indeed give a bad impression of tradespeople. But then so do many things. Its not worth worrying about, all that we can do is move onwards and upwards and demonstrate that our own businesses are legitimate.

Glenda,

it is a fact , not a myth
the police are involved ,
and were do i say " cant remember the exact name of compamy involved"?

I am not worried either, infact I was thinking of turning it to my advantage :)  by asking a couple of local c/c to come along with me and offer a free clean through out ;D
she was an elderly lady , taken advantage of .

My advantage , yes I am sure a little write up in the local press may be advantagious ;)

I never said you'd said you couldn't remember the name of the company. I was saying that in general when stories go round no one ever knows the name of those allegedly involved.

Sounds like an organised scam. Knock out leaflets that no doubt will only have mobile number. Book a few jobs in. Hire machine from B&Q. Run the theft scam and leg it to the next town, to do it all again.

One has to be wary in this day and age, and anyone who orders anything from a leaflet through the door, that contains only basic contact information is asking for trouble. However its surprising that some people do fall for it - just a mobile number, no address, or an 0800 number. The travelling community use this type of contact info all the time, and whilst not wanting to label them all on the same page - would anyone in their right mind phone them.
