Allergic Reactions
« on: November 12, 2004, 11:32:45 am »
Strange as it may seem bearing in mind the work that I do and the amount that I come into contact with,

I have an allergy to cats, ::) some times slight sometimes severe so I normally wear a mask when cats are present on a job.

Yesterday I did not wear one (I had taken them off the vehicle the day before and forget to put them back on)  and on a large domestic job involving furniture and carpets I could feel the symptons coming on to such an extent that by the end of the job (some 6 hours later) my nose and eyes were streaming and by the time i had got home I had to take myself off to bed for the rest of the evening to recover, it's like having the flu or at least a very heavy cold and it can last for up to 12hrs.
I'll never take the masks off the vehicle again thats for sure.

Out of all the cleaning solutions I have used over the years and various carpets and furniture etc  that I cleaned nothing else bothers me. It's only cats that set it off.

Does anyone else suffer with a similar problem or is it just me. :(

Woodman,

My wife suffers from cat allegy also , in fact it was one of the things that attracted me to her in the first place. :o
Several girlfriends and my first wife had them and they allowed the smelly things onto beds etc :'(

On a serious note I have to be careful when I clean a cat infested house as just by putting my sweatshirt on a chair , I can cause my wife problems that evening.

I personally suffer hay fever but am  not allergic  to animals,

Hope you are feeling better,

Cheers,

Doug

I'm allergic to beer :o after 8-9 pints I keep falling over  and I'm violently sick

( I know its an old joke , but it still makes me laugh :) )

I'm allergic to cement. When i left school I became an apprentice bricklayer for the next 10 years on & off I  suffered from contact dermatitus The doc said it was the cement in the morter.

luckily I don't use a lot of cement when cleaning carpets.

Im allergic to some cats & dogs so i ask the customers if they have any pets.
If they have i normally take an anti-histermine tablet about an hour or so before the appointment
works for me (try to get the non drousy type though)
