More help needed
« on: November 17, 2007, 11:17:40 am »
Hi guy's sorry to keep butting in on your forum, but we had the grandkids staying with us for a couple of weeks, and the little darlings have set about certain areas with pens,so I'm going to need some help from the pro's.

The next one we found was blue ink pen they drew all over the seat of one of my dinning room chairs. Its is made of micro fiber and has scotch guard on it. I sprayed shout on it but that only made the ink run! oooops! How can I get the ink off? I think there is no way.

Thanks again Guy's.

A little tip for you Guy's, Lock the grandkids in a cupboard, if they come to stay with you. ;D ;D

so the ink ran, what does that tell you?

answer; the ink is water soluble. so don't spray the shout onto it spray it onto a cloth and dab the stain and try and get the ink to transfer to the cloth.

but inks a sod to get out, might be worth waiting until the grandkids have gone and call in the pros

Jeff Micro fibre is synthetic and very straight forward to clean and  ink can be removed from it quite successfully. Ink pens have a carrier mixed in with the pigment which is usually castor oil, and this is what makes it harder to remove. You will find that you will get a result better with a solvent or alcohol spotter rather that a water based one. I would not advise a solvent based one if you are not experienced with stain removal as you could cause delamination of the micro- fibre, so I would reccomend an alcohol spotter. My personal favorite is Eco spotter from Solution Uk and this will usually remove most ink stains that I come accross.
You just need to spray onto a cloth and then lightly aggitate the ink stain.

Thats a great help, I'll try anything to get shut of these stains, it might work out cheaper to get rid of the grandkids  :o ;D
