Carpet & Upholstery subjected to cat hairs

Young child with Asthma which is exacerbated by above.

What is science behind cause?

and what are best methods during the cleaning process to tackle it?

Have my own method but never had any feedback on jobs of this nature either way so would like to get the general concensus.

There will be many who will espouse various remedies. However there is only ONE  permanent remedy. Get rid of the cat.

It is not the Cats Hair that causes the Allergy but the sweat and salvia.

It can be Airborn for Many Hours

As the Cats get older the problem increases.

Solution  Washing of all Materials Cat comes into contact with



The Hairs which are not causing the problem should be removed with an Upright Vac with Heppa Filteration, to acheive maximum results Vac  North to South and then East to west Continue Untill you apear to be sucking No dry soil. followed by Hot Water Extraction with a Power Brush.

Open Widows regularly

If Cat is causing Major discomfort to member of household see Doctor

If requred remove Cat

I would also treat Carpets and Funtiture with Promite this deals with allegen Dep1  FOR   up to 14 MONTHS

Cat has actually gone and the child's parents are divorced. Mother is refusing to allow child to stay with Father until issue dealt with so he has asked me to clean carpet and upholstery. Obviously those of us with kids will feel for the guy so I want do everything in my power to make this siuation right for him.

The sweat on the hair must still release proteins of some sort that are affecting the childs breathing. I realise that there may be other causes which I will investigate when I get there but any other tips would be appreciated.

John, Would you believe it, one of the jets on that wand you sold me got blocked first time of use. I have put 3 litres if hot limelite at 400 psi through the hose and both wands and they are now working perfect. Guess this is just something I'll have to do on a regulare basis.

As an Asthma sufferer myself it never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who say they are having their carpets cleaned because their kids got Asthma. Then when you move the sofa or bed there is an inch of fluff underneath. Thick or what.

Pete I would pre-vac thoroughly preferably with a hepa filter. Then just clean as normal but advise that hard surfaces may also need to be wiped down such as skirtings, window sills etc in order to obtain some success.

Re wands blocking, how old are your solution hoses? After 3 years they can start to break down on the inside. Unscrew connector and run into clean bucket and see what kind of crap comes out.

It can take upto 4 years to get rid of cat allergens or so I was told
