We have a number of commercial jobs and have recently been approached to quote for a dental practise on a daily basis.

My question is can anyone clean these types of premises? I would have thought there'd be some sort of criteria or special disposal options, but have run a few searches and can't find anything. I wouldn't want to quote for something that we are not legally allowed to!

I don`t do any my self but I did with the firm I use to work for, I don`t know if there was a reasoning behind it but the dentists would empty their own clinical waste bins and clean their own surfaces we would clean the floors and the remainder of the surgery as we would any other job

The are no legal reasons why you shouldn't take this job on, the only thing to think about diffently is as mentioned above the clinical waste.  If you are expected to remove the yellow bags for collection it is not a problem as long as you use PPE and are aware that there could be risks like sharps that have put in accidently, the other thing to do is have a hep b jab, this is important for working in any kind of medical centre.

Obviously treat surfaces like any other contract and tell them that you won't clean, or move equipment and if nec put in a 'clear desk' policy.  When using chemicals on any work surfaces in this environment make sure it is an odourless kitchen sanitiser.

We have a contract to clean a dentist surgery and we are told only to do the floor in the surgery as the nurses take care of everything else
If it is for Oasis Dental Care, they see to be buying up all the surgerys, just bewarned they are not the best of paying have had to shase them on a number of occassions, hope this is helpful

If you are cleaning a doctors or dental surgery you will need a combination of cleaning chemicals, for the surfaces I would recommend a Ph Neutral detergent, I use a Germicidal Detergent and Deodorant called Quat 256 from Buckeye in the USA, it is effective against Hepatitis B Virus & HIV-1 Virus and as it is pH neutral, it's safe on all floor finish's

If we are preparing clinical waste the surgery practice manager will provide you with a copy of the procedure to brief your staff, we stay clear of sharps, outsourcing the collection and control to PHS.

If you are unsure of chemicals and detergents, use microfiber on the work surfaces, a good Ph neutral detergent will create the odour expected in a dentist practice if used on the floors.
