Deathwatch beetle
« on: September 28, 2007, 06:55:28 pm »
Had customer ring me to see if I could repair two holes in side of leather suite which had appeared.Looked as if something had munched their way through the leather apparently they had heard a clicking noise for some time turns out it is a deathwatch (click)beetle suite is 3 years old.Once bottom was taken off piles of saw dust fell out where they had been eating the wood. They had one in a jar which was one ugly little thing

Suite was sold as genuine Italian leather turns out it was manufactured in Taiwan insurance customer bought does not cover it.Pest control man says he is seeing more of this type of beetle due to cheap imports coming into the country.More prevalent down south apparently as its too cold up here so watch out.

Its the lavae of the death watch bettle that actually eats the wood.

I had them in my loft. The beatles tap to attract a mate. Sounds like an old fashioned telephone dial.

I had quotes for Timber and damp companies to come and spray the loft space. They varied from £200 - £1700. Good mornings work if you can get it.
