DI tank problems

 i have 2 tanks similar to the one in the picture, they have not been used in about 10 years and when i opened the tops to remove the resin there was a pipe from the cap down thru the resin which was attached to either the water inlet or the water outlet , does anybody know which

It should be the water inlet.
