I have just go for it myself. With the free listing I got £600 a years worth of work so I thought I'd give it a try next year. I phoned a few rival window cleaners in my area and said I was a window cleaner in a different town and was no competition to them ( although I was) I told them I was looking at going in another yellow pages but just wondered if as a fellow trades when they would recommend yellow pages. All of them recommended it and one guy told me he picks up about £20 a week in work from it.  :)

yell.com or google adwords for commercial, yellow pages for domestic.
adwords can work out pricey, but you can put in coordinates to localise your market i.e a radius of your base, then it will only be shown to customers whos IP address is in that area. You can get your monthly bill back in two weeks from new work, depending on area, all my work is in London and the response is very good. also you can turn your advertising on and off as you wish and set monthly limits to how much you want to spend.
hope this helps.

I would go onto yell.com and type in window cleaners for the area that I wanted to cover, then see how many are already listed. There are 9 listed on yell for your area, I dont know how many are in yellow pages for your area.
In my area there are quite a few but I get at least 1 call a week from it.

On yell , do you not change everytime someone logs on . So if I go on now you will be top but if I go on again in a couple of mins you have moved down to second place
Ian

A lot of places get them posted through the door
if not look on the counter in your local post office as some post office's have them on the counter.

The details how to advertise would be inside
