Used it today. Its called a BRUSH. Yep thats right. Its a £1 Wilko hand brush. If the carpet will take it and its emulision spots and they are relatively recent then a rigorous brush gets loads off. Or at least frees them to extract.

Always my first choice before getting spot kits outs. Works more often than not.
