DI Vessel problem
« on: June 16, 2007, 09:42:34 am »
My DI Vessel is causing my problems
It is basically very hard to unscrew it /screw it up.
I have checked the threads and they seem fine.
I filled with fresh resin a couple of weeks ago
and I could only do it up with about half a turn left to be tight down.
This has caused lots of air locks and it has been sucking the water out of it.
So I have had to unscrew and top it up a couple of times now.
Is there a magical way of undoing/doingup these things as I feel
I will break it if I keep doing this! (can you get spares?)
It is the standard black plastic top fitting.
Any advice appreciated
Russ

Russ

First check to see the threads are not cross threaded, try without the central tube being attatched, just to make things easier.

You have to be 100% central or they will never screw down.

Central Tube?
Do you mean the white plastic fitting attached to the screwtop?
I have looked at the threads and they seem fine ???

Some types of plastic can be very "sticky". Have you tried putting some vaseline on the thread?

Russ

The long 12 inch plus tube, usually slides out of the screw top.

Just remove it while you experiment with screwing it down, it will give you more control while you see whats going on.

dont forget to refit it when you have sorted it out

What dave said is correct.
It does have to be perfectly central, this is quite difficult sometimes as you have to push the tube down through the resin. It often takes me half a dozen goes before i get it right without cross threading. Mine is always very tight to unscrew also, i just hold it between my legs the best i can & turn the top as hard as i can.

Just to add to that, there should also be a rubber sealing ring on the top (the bit you screw off).

I know I'm stating the obvious, but if you fill your vessel to the top of the neck, you will have problems trying to screw the top on.
Just fill it up to the point that the vessel starts tapering towards the neck. Dai

Job done thanks everyone
I did not realise the riser tubing came out at all
I removed it then replaced it without the screw on top section
applied a little vaseline and then screwed it back on
works a treat ;D ;D
