ro watse question
« on: June 03, 2007, 08:29:26 am »
right i need some thought on this one

i live in the country and we have our own bore hole, basically a well thats pump to the house

the water goes into a pressurised vessel then through a home cotton filter and comes out the tap at 050 TDS, it comes out that before the filter but due to there being bits of earth in there, the filter keeps all that back!

now my question is, could  i run my waste back down the bore hole? it would mix with the water in the ground, back through the filter then through the RO, mean i waste no water...but and i mean but, it feeds the house water, so if the ro waste is harmful to drink then please advice me, i just thought with it going back into the ground, mixing with the other water and then through a filter it might MIGHT be ok.

i could be wrong though  ;) i just fear the day of when we run outta water in hot spells  :-\  :)

Your own bore hole  8) lucky you

I dont think the waste is harmful to drink, it just has a much higher tds count tham normal, if your water from the house is 050tds then I guesstimate the waste would read 200tds or 300tds possibly

Dont see any reason why you could not feed it back down the bore hole

I can't see it being a problem, just check the tds of your tap water and if it raises a lot then re plumb the ro.  My tds is 400 so I'd count yourself lucky.

As long as you have a low heavy metal/phosphates count in your source water, there should be no problem. It would be best to consult with a bore hole specialist about the mechanics of putting it back in successfully though.

Had this topic a few times, its a question of economics!
By feeding the waste water  back thru your R/O System you will be
making the Membrane work a lot harder, as the waste water
contains high levels of contamination. The water saving can in the long run
be a short lived money saving, when the Membrane needs changing as it
will become spent quicker; I.E. whats cheaper a) the waste water or b) a new Membrane ?.
I know from an R/O manufacturer that they definately are against trying to
reuse the waste water.

If thats the case then definately dont use the waste water, get the maximun life out of the R/O Membrane.

surely with a tds of 050 all you would need do is put it through a di vessel, so no waste anyway

well i havent changed my resin in like 8 months, and i still get 000 tds

its 000 tds out of the membrane, how much resin would i get through on just a di vessel?

i had the ro when i lived in a hard water area over 8 months ago, so i just put it into this house

If your waste TDS is 50ppm, then feeding this back into the ground to mix with the natural reservoir of water should give your RO no problems at all.
