But if you dont get people doing work for you, you will limit your income to what you can do on your own.

Hey, I mostly work on my own for my own reasons as do most people.

If you want to have a business that will pay you when you dont work, pay you when away on holidays etcetera and pay even for your retirement then you will have to start having people work for you.

You may not like that though but in most cases none of us work and profit enough that we can take enough time off.  Well if someone is cleaning for you, you can do just that.

I still have a business in California  which apart from a few jobs a year I dont do anything for.  It still profits me 20,000 (£) a year.  Not much by any standards but I dont have to do anything for it.

If I can do the same with my business here and double it because there is so much more monies to be earned over here then that will be £60,000 profit a year for doing diddly.  £60,000 a year isnt that much but again I would be able to do all I wanted to do which had nothing to do with cleaning and still have a reasonable income.

If I put out another van and got the same work for it as the first van I could add another 20 or 30,000 profit and so it "could" go on.

Hmm maybe I should do that.  I know of people on here who would work for 50,000 a year and be happy, although I dont know why and I could make 20,000 out of their efforts.

I wont do it I am sure because I want to do other things but it is a thought if I ever did want to.

So spikandspan.  Its not all doom and gloom.

Remember, most succesful business have many people with in the four walls so to speak.  Within these four walls I am sure you wouldnt see the owner.

Best, Dave.

It has to be said though, if you can deal with the hassle and stress and have a good business head, these are the people who really make a fortune in the business.

Problem with owner operators is they have got where they are because of their skills, professionalism and attitude. Unfortunately this counts against them because in the end they can't let go. I think one of the 'Gurus' reckoned these people are perfectionist and can't stand/understand anything else. But it don't make you rich.

You are only a bad back away from losing your business as an owner operator.

In a previous life I recruited for other companies and later when I set up my own business for myself, I found that you have to shift your attitude from this 'in your own image' view of an employee to one of, if they were as good as me or had the inclination they wouldn't be wanting a job.

So then it's a case of deciding what you will accept, what they must do and what systems you can put in place to assure it happens.

It starts with selection, which is an art in itself.

Hi

Great move. the old saying "stop working in your business and start working on it"

Forget blokes go for part time ladies, two will out work and not nick your customers after you have trained them.

The time that you get free should be used up in training, QC, and marketing.

good luck

Ladies won't nick your customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you must be joking !

New legislation came in last week concerning MATERNITY LEAVE make yourself aware of it, it's very scary.

We employ around 20 females and it's a nightmare...................they always claim they will be happy to work ............nights / weekends / whatever, but will think nothing of taking time off when a kid is off school or their mother / father / grandmother, is unwell.

One of our employees nicked two clients recently, but we were taken to tribunal, after telling her we had no work for her.................and we lost.

As a result of the above we joined an organisation called Peninsula and suggest you consider doing the same, if intend employing.

I would also recommed peninsula. They run free seminars going over new legislation covering emp. law, h&s etc

It is quite scary. Some 'employees' make money by knowing these things better than you and many cash rich businesses have gone under.

Pen. have consultants in each area that you can call on a helpline and take on board the handling of claims.
