Hi,

Is anyone advertising with these this year? The year before last we had a poor response so stopped with them. This year they're introducing the nectar point scheme and reckon it will mean a massive reponse for advertisers!

They've offered me a D2 size advert (112 mm x 50mm) full colour and online advertising package for £644, apparently over 50% discount because the book has closed and they forgot to contact me ...... or maybe just that they've still got space left!

Whats everyone else paying?

Cheers,

Huw.

Nothing to Thomsons as I have a freebie with them but I am paying about £140 to YP.

Have tried Yellow Pages as well as Thompson Local, personally i found I could advertise in better places for around the same money but with a much better response.

I guess it works for some and not for others, personally, talking from experience, I would spend ya money elsewhere.

Try local clubs/associations/churches these have a captive audience and tend to trust adverts in their magazines more than local papers, it has the "local" feel to it?

I've found that the cost of the advert has been less than the work gained from it.  In fact I have gained four pretty decent jobs from it as well as several OK jobs.  However, there have been many enquiries for jobs that I wouldn't quote due to bad access problems as well as making me a target for unsolicited telesales calls (even though my numbers are registered with the TPS).  I also get a fair few enquiries for one off end of tenancy cleans.  I really do wonder why these people ALWAYS leave it until the last couple of days before vacating and then expect me to drop everything for their benefit and then grumble about the high price.
So a reasonable amount of work gained but much of it one off.

With stuff like the Yellow Pages and Thompson local, you have to advertise in it year after year.  I'm getting a better response from the Yellow Pages now, since I've been in it for four years on the trot.

Why?

Because people don't use the new one, they lose them or chuck them out and have an out-of-date one.  When it's really out of date, they then keep the most recent one and use that.  (Have I explained myself properly here?)

I only have a small listing; about 100 quid it costs; but I'll be in there year after year; I may as well since it's tax-deductable anyway.

They told me that my free advert wasn't going to be in this years as they were stopping them.
They phoned me every other day for almost 2 weeks trying to get me to pay for an advert.
Too pushy for my liking.

They also said the YP was going to disappear as the new TL was getting a better responce.

I'm sticking with the YP as i get quite a few calls from it and this year it has paid for itself within 3 or 4 months.

Well it sounds like the Thomson's sales person told a direct lie.  They phoned me recently. I told them I only wanted a freebie this year and they were fine with it.  They even gave me the office number for me to phone up and change my number.
I reckon a direct lie like that could even be worth making a complaint about.

Thomsom rang me and said their book was closing so did I want to advertise with them for £175.00. I said I will think about it and haggled with them on the phone. Do you want to know how much I ended up paying????
Ok. £50.00 + VAT.

Hi,

They're getting a bit p****d off with me now, since speaking with them at around twelve o' clock this afternoon they must have phoned me 14 or 15 times trying to get me to send back the order, just received an email from them now saying that they have found someone else who is interested in the advertising space so can I make my mind up immediately.

Cheers,

Huw.
