hi all i have been asked to protect a huge carpet. i would love to do it but as its that horrible plant carpet, im stumped.

can i put down flouroseal ? will it help the customer ? will it damage the carpet ?

not keen to take advantage if its not worth it, but lady is very keen and dont like losing a couple of hundred quid for a little easy work.

thoughts asap please as she wants it done yesterday.

I personally would not use a water based protector but a solvent based one like Fabricseal should be O.K.

It would work out quite expensive and you would have to ensure good ventillation, but you should be able to charge accordingly.

personally i'd walk away, there's alot more easier carpets to clean with minimal risk!!!!!!!!!

I know it could be good money, but personally, I'd walk away like the other guy said. We did one once, years ago, and it went horribly wrong. I know there's probably better products available now but be careful, your reputation is worth more than a couple of hundred pounds.

I did one for a retailer I protect for on the understanding it was on their head if or when it shrunk. Measured it before and after and on approx 12 by 12 shrunk by about 1-2 inches. This was on the warehouse floor so not fitted . It did get fitted ok so must have relaxed. I used solugard cos its only about 1ltr to 20 -25 sq/m and applied 2 light coats leaving to dry between.Wouldnt like to risk it if responsibility fell on my head.

Cleaned one large room with a tightly woven Seagrass floor covering. The problem was several patches of dog vomit (it had eaten a dead deer which is not unusual in my area). Cleaned up OK, acceptable, but not perfect, with dry granules, Sebo Duo and then vacuumed.

It had a rubberised backing and the customer agreed to take the risk on a solvent protector which did leave very slightly darker after drying. However, the main thing was a happy customer who has been able to clean up some other spills.

In my situation I had done work there previously and the customer was intelligent enough to realise that taking a risk on cleaning/protector was cheaper than replacement.
