how do you avoid runs?
« on: February 11, 2007, 05:46:44 pm »
During the cleaning of my vented windows I am always left with white water runs. How can this be as I rinse with plenty of water and avoid the vents?
I do not have much experience yet of using the water fed pole system and would be pleased to receive any advice on this matter.
Could this be because I live on a main road?

Thanks
Joe

are you cleaning any part at all of the top frame even though you say you're not doing the vents???
living on a main road would not put white runs on your windows.
and also what are your window frames made of, wood (painted) or upvc?
your answers will help decide whats causing your probs. :)

IMO then i would avoid the top frame completely, i personaly never clean the top frame for the same reason, it will give you nowt but trouble. just try to clean up to the glass beading but dont go over it. with the bristles on the glass push the brush up to the top of the glass & move from one side right over to the other & back a few times just letting the top-side of the bristles rub along the top beading. then clean glass as normal, then move brush to top left of glass, again just letting the top-side of the bristles touch the beading & move it slowly accross to the right giving a good rinse.when you reach the other side of window having rinsed all way accross lift the brush off & away not letting any water spray above the beading. this, my friend should sort your problem. this will take some patience & practice to perfect but once you do you'll never look back. a good quality rectangular brush with pencil jets is far better for this technique. ;) works every time for me. ;)
hope this helps, keep me posted. :)

This is my view after using a WFP for four years

90% of the time YOU DO have to clean the top frames, why! how close is close to the top frame with out splashing it when cleaning the glass!

Joe you have to clean the top frame and over the top of the vent BUT when you are close to the bottom of the vent DONT push your brush up it, as this will give you the runs you are talking about, if need be you can turn the flow down to help with this matter  ;)

I'm for cleaning the top frames and vents too, it's easier to be accurate and miss then on downstairs windows but how on earth can you be so accurate to miss them on say a window above a conservatory or a window in limited space at side of the house, you must have eagle eyes ;)
I did try to miss the frames/vents out once but one ever so slight movement on the pole and a splash goes on frame/vent and you're done for!!! So I ended up doing them anyway!!

like i said, time & patience, practice & skill.
its your choice mate, i know i would clean your problem windows in a quarter of the time you take & leave absolutley no runs, drips, spots!!! no chance of runs coming out of the vents later in the day when you've gone home too!
to me its a no brainer :o

the more i clean the better at it i get, you get to know which window keep dripping,
like the ones that have 2 panes at the top & a lg pane below i find that if i dont wash above the top frame or in between the two top panes i dnt get runs from the center down the bottom pane, but its took me 3 mnth to suss it out,
keep practicing ull get it rite in the end,
